“What’s Inside” is a simply wrapped up episode, filled in with a pinch of dark humor, grief, pain, carpooling and friendly bickering. Two medical cases engaged all the doctors and the viewers during the hour.
Poor intern Cross and his TB abdominal infection has been used as a comic relief and his case was keeping busy Edwards and DeLuca. Moreover, Cross’ medical case provided the scene for the friendly bickering beewen Webber and Bailey. It is always quite enjoyable and entertaining when the doctors approach some serious issues from the more humoristic side. It makes one think sometimes, that life shouldn’t be taken that seriously.
That’s what Meredith Grey was trying to do with her half sister. She wanted to cheer up Pierce through the magic of dancing, because it was obvious that visiting graveyards and expressing worry wasn’t helping much. But Avery was the one who was holding the key to the joy – Maggie’s mother medical records and pictures of Diane Pierce from around the world.
It’s “normal” for Dr. Pierce to grieve, the way she was grieving. Because she grew up in a “normal” family and had a happy “normal” childhood (whatever that means). So, following the logic of the the normal people’s lifestyle, one visits graves and brings flowers, and talk quietly to the dead person as if they will hear them.
On the other side, Dr. Pierce’s compartmentalising ability was fascinating. She stuffed back in all the feelings of sadness and transformed herself into a fearless baby tumor slayer. She and Dr. Robbins gave a ray of hope for a healthy baby to Owen’s friends.
Speaking of Dr. Robbins, her perky chit-chats with Riggs were quite a delight and looks like these two characters might have quite an entertaining-to-watch friendship, if only the writers let it.
Unintentionally, Robbins smashed Rigg’s hopes and dreams for a relationship between him and Meredith.
Regardless of that, if Meredith wasn’t interested and curious, she wouldn’t have started playing the game of “push and pull” with him.
At least, Robbins and Minnick are well beyond that stage. We are led to assume that the two of them are dating with occasional sleepovers. Probably, the writers were trying to imply exactly that. Well, fans of the couple would like to see more than just a dumb joke about carpooling.
As for the rest of the couples, they have been put on hold, which means that some loose ends should start tightening before the season ends.
With that said: “Are you curious to see what’s behind door No.3?”
So many unresolved plots and so little episode have left. Hopefully, answers will be coming soon.
