Secrets, pretending and hiding behind masks were the core themes in a rather uneventful, but light and humorous Grey’s Anatomy episode. “The Great Pretender” managed to restore the balance after the heavy and emotional episode from the previous week.
Meredith Grey hid from the world for three whole days and probably felt so guilty about it that she decided lying was the best approach. However, discovering the perks of being alone and spending some time in her own company certainly was worth it.
But Meredith’s little self- indulging secret was nothing compared to the one that Dr. Warren’s brother was hiding. The highly secretive transgender storyline, mentioned in the media a while back finally kicked in. Dr. Bailey’s soft, compassionate and understanding side also emerged from its hiding place and started exercising full support. Now with Avery in the picture, we are going to witness the transition of a human being- a person who was born in the wrong body, a person who is going to become a woman, a person who doesn’t need to pretend anymore to be someone else for the sake of other people’s pleasure.
Speaking of pleasing people, in a very open hearted and cosy conversation with Dr. Robbins, The Ice Queen’s frozen heart melted like an ice cube in the desert. Who would have thought, this arrogant and cold woman was a people pleaser. Surprisingly or not, that depends; Dr. Robbins opened up to Herman like a flower to the spring sun and showed the skeletons in the closet that she has been hiding. And a friendship was forged between these two and sealed with the robbery of another coach. Dr. Herman shouldn’t have been this much surprised with Arizona’s dirty adventures. This very same woman “stole” her medical records from another hospital. The newly found friendship between Arizona and Herman is surely a good and entertaining one, but as it usually happens on Grey’s Anatomy, it may not last long.
On another note, Callie Torres finally found it within herself to jump in the cold and harsh dating pool to improve her game and be less pathetic in her PJs every evening at home.
After sharing a few awkward scenes, Major Hunt and She Shepherd became a thing. Amelia picked another family guy and Owen another woman who runs from marriage and family as if it is a deadly plague. These two people and their dark pasts hold the possibility of destroying each other. But who knows, maybe they will start pretending how much they have grown up and how much life lessons they have learnt. Owen and Amelia as a couple, certainly is not one of the brightest ideas, however there are enough upcoming episodes to see how this story is going to unfold.
Until then find the balance between pretending and revealing!
