Frustration, anxiety and anger struck at Grey Sloan Memorial last Thursday night. The doctors were contracting them like a contagious disease with the speed of light. Their personal issues have reached the levels of the alarming code red. It was like a cry for help or more like a cry for emergency anger management. With the whole fury, screaming and yelling that was flooding the hospital and beyond its walls, the doctors created an entirely new constellation in the sky, called “Angry Birds in Flames”.
The award for the most burning bright star goes to McDreamy and his outstanding ego issues. As predicted, Derek and his giant ego abandoned the land of Passive Agressiva and pulled out the big guns. It wasn’t enough to take it out on his sister, but right then and there he totally lost it and shot Meredith right in the heart without even giving her a chance to speak. Derek is in need for emergency heart transplant, because his ego is haemorrhaging and needs removing.
Chief Hunt with his Cristina issues needs to do some sewing on the past, move on with his life and start saving himself because no one else will do that for him. Picking desperate and pointless verbal fights with Callie is not an actual solution to do something that feels right. We all miss Cristina Yang and sympathise with Owen, but mopping around in denial won’t bring her back. She is surely better off out there in the world, doing what she is brilliant at.
Speaking of Yang, probably she would have gotten crazy mad if she knew that Alex lost the board seat to Bailey. After all, Cristina put her trust in him by leaving her shares of the hospital to him and this should mean something. It was a bit unfair to Alex, unfortunately, once an underdog, always an underdog. Probably, the board cushioned the blow by offering him something else. What would that be, we will find out soon enough.
In the meantime, Meredith and Alex are nailing it as buddies. They are quite a dynamic duo. Alex surely has a different approach and shows Meredith there are other ways to deal with certain things, like confronting them instead of avoiding them.
One of these things is the newly emerged half- sister Maggie Pierce. The Grey-Webber-Pierce family drama entered a very hot place, after Webber revealed to Maggie his relationship with Ellis Grey. The family drama is steadily boiling up. At the same time Meredith Grey has to face her hubby, “The Sun”, and find a way for him to suck the reality.
Right behind Meredith and Derek’s career and family issues are Callie and Arizona. These two for a third episode in a row managed to cause frustration and irritation among the viewers. Callie and Arizona have become so disconnected from one another, that whatever one of them says the other one is like a sound proof wall. They are exactly like that military amputee guy, whose muscles and nerves don’t connect and respond. And Callie seems to play the ‘sound proof wall’ role far more often than Arizona. However, when the white noise of something regarding the new baby pierces through Callie’s deaf ears, she gets all jumpy and agitated. Maybe, she should take upon her own words and stop running her mouth and open her ears. As for Arizona, she should do exactly the opposite and stop playing the ‘peacemaker’ role.
Callie Torres is certainly starting to sound like a baby maniac. Is she still in love with ideas? Or her ‘having a baby’ issues have far more deeper and complex roots? Roots, that might start from back in season 6. Roots that might go by the name ‘fear’. Fear that Arizona might bail and leave her; fear that deep down in her heart Arizona might not want kids anymore. Fear that Arizona uses the fetal surgery fellowship as a tool to avoid a baby commitment.
What about Arizona? She keeps walking on eggshells around Callie, measuring the length and the width of her words, trying to produce something reasonable and yet she is misunderstood. She has to get it together not only with Callie but also with the bossy Ice Queen, Dr. Herman who doesn’t even treat her like a fellow but rather like an intern.
Surely, the writers at Grey’s have been building up Callie and Arizona’s storyline successfully so far. Sooner than later they will open the Pandora Box and all hell will break in Calzona’s paradise.
Until then, open up! Vulnerability doesn’t always bite. Expose yourself to whatever comes your way!
